World Vegan Day: 5 must-try plant-based meats

World Vegan Day is a campaign that encourages individuals to cut down on their consumption of animal products. Every year, it takes place on the 1st of November and has garnered the interest of thousands of people who use it as an opportunity to spread awareness of veganism. 

Something that deters people from quitting meat is the simple fact that they’ll miss the taste. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be an issue anymore, as plant-based alternatives are mouthwateringly delicious. But if you’re a newbie that’s emerging into the exciting world of alternatives, allow me to recommend a few of the most iconic, tasty, more-ish products out there at the moment. 

Moving Mountains - Hot Dogs

Moving Mountains was founded in 2016 by Simeon Van der Molen, who set out to create meat alternatives that taste, look, smell and satisfy like animal meat. You can find this brand in restaurants and supermarkets across Europe and Australia. One of their most popular products is the gluten-free hot dog which is made using sunflower seeds. It has a naturally smoked flavour and realistic, firm texture. This product also won the Great Taste Award and is packed with plant protein and natural ingredients. 

Tofurky - Smoked Bacon Tempeh

Seth Tibbot founded Tofurky in the 80s, and it remains a family-owned business to this day. They aptly market their tempeh as ‘tofu’s weird-but-cool cousin’ because it shares lots of similarities to tofu (aka they’re both made from soybeans), but it’s different in taste due to fermentation. So if you’re looking for a nutritious, healthy alternative to bacon, then you can’t get much better than this Smoked Tempeh. 

Future Farm - Future Sausages

Future Farm is a Brazilian brand that has already experienced massive success in its mere two years of existence (from Brazil and beyond). They were also the first to produce plant-based meat in their country! Their realistic and tasty sausages have been described as revolutionary. They’re also gluten-free, made with natural ingredients, and GMO-free.

THIS - Isn’t Bacon Plant-Based Lardons

THIS was born in 2019 when two meat-lovers decided there was a gap in the market for an ultra-realistic meat replacement that PROPERLY works in a fry up. Their products are high in protein and delicious, so they’re an absolute must-try for anyone prone to a meat craving. The plant-based lardons are incredibly versatile, made from a mixture of soy and pea protein and fortified with vitamin B12 and iron.

The Curators - Plant-Based Mushroom Meatballs

Everything in The Curators range has been inspired by flavours the founder’s discovered on their travels. All of their savoury snacks offer quality plant protein with fewer calories yet still pack a serious punch of flavour.
