Plant-based meat alternatives maker Beyond Meat has partnered with some of the largest fast-food chains in the US to accelerate the shift to vegetarian and vegan diets.
Last week, Beyond Meat announced its new partnership with McDonalds, to launch a plant-based "McPlant" platform.
Beyond Meat and McDonald's will collaborate for the period of three years to develop more plant-based alternatives including pork, chicken and egg. The brand new McPlant menu will be introduced in select outlets in the US.
Commenting on the partnership, McDonald’s Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer Francesca DeBiase said: “Our new McPlant platform is all about giving customers more choices when they visit McDonald’s.”
“We’re excited to work with Beyond Meat to drive innovation in this space, and entering into this strategic agreement is an important step on our journey to bring delicious, high quality, plant-based menu items to our customers.”
Additionally, the plant-based meat pioneers signed a contract with Yum Brands, the operator of popular fast-food brands Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell to supply the chains with the new plant-based meat alternatives.
“Today’s announcement builds on our strong relationship with Beyond Meat and, given the consumer response during recent tests with Beyond Meat, we’re excited about the long-term potential plant-based protein menu items have to attract more customers to our brands, especially younger consumers,” said Chris Turner, the Yum! Brands’ Chief Financial Officer.
