Squash and wild mushroom is a favourite combination over much of North Italy but especially the Veneto. The pumpkins of Chioggia South of Venice are famous throughout Italy and throughout Autumn the markets are full of hand-gathered mushrooms. It would be eaten on its own with sweet butter and grated Parmesan, usually as a 'primo' or starter.
